The Night of 1000 Ukuleles @ Satchel’s has been temporarily suspended. We may well resume, if there is enough interest, in August or September. If you have thoughts on whether we should meet monthly, let me know and we’ll see how it goes.
This page contains links for Night of 1000 Ukuleles @ Satchel’s.
For St. Patrick’s Day we played a few Irish tunes. In February, we had some beautiful voices accompany the ukes.
- When Irish Eyes are Smiling (Key of G and D)
- Medley When Irish Eyes are Smiling (G) and My Wild Irish Rose. If you don’t know how these songs go, this page has a player where you can hear Dr. Uke sing and strum the song to help familiarize you with it.
- If anybody is ambitious and wants a challenge, this Whiskey in the Jar version is for you.
Bring your ukulele to play and sing with the group and you can also prepare and share a song or two or three.
If you have a ukulele and don’t know how to play it, bring it and we’ll teach you a few tunes. We have some printouts with chords and words. You may want to bring a light and a music stand if you want to join in.
Everyone is welcome.
Our ukes will be tuned high G, C, E, A. If you play baritone ukulele, you may want to find music specifically for baritone ukulele as the baritone is typically tuned different than the other ukuleles.
We’ve had three “Night of 1,000 Ukuleles” on January 12 and Feb. 17 and Feb. 17 from 7 – 9 pm.
If you have a song you would like to have everyone help you play or sing, send the link to the music and I’ll post it for others to download and print. Contact me at
ukulele.perspective@me.com
Some faves that we’ve added to our repertoire (you can download the pdf and practice for March):
- Mister Sandman
- Love Potion #9
- Hokey-pokey
- Petula Clark’s Downtown
- Sloop John B
Send more links to songs everyone could pratice and be ready to sing and play.
Song Books for Ideas

Doctor Uke probably has the best collection of old traditional songs and jazz/popular standards for ukulele. The songs are here: http://doctoruke.com/songs.html, and I would reccomend:
I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter
All of me
All I do is dream of you
and of course, Tiptoe thru the tulips
Ukefarm also has a few at http://ukefarm.com/chordgen/index.php, and I would suggest “After you’ve gone” would be a great song to try.
Also, take a look at Chordie, which has a very large assortment of more modern music (60s and on, mostly, though some exceptions)
I also have about a couple Ukulele song books, and about 3 books of music copied off the internet or written by myself that I’ll bring along that you can look through.
I have lived in G’ville since 69 and have played and taught ukulele for a long time. I want to get to know some other uke players.
